Everyone loves a puppy! But housebreaking? Nipping? Jumping? Barking? No one loves that stuff!

Our puppy training programs are designed to help with all of these common puppy pain points. We teach your puppy what they need to know, and we also teach you what you need to know to raise a balanced, stable puppy.

As your puppy develops, you have a tremendous opportunity to shape their behavior, their perception of how they relate to the humans in their life, and their view of the world around them. Puppy training isn’t complicated; however, it is easy to mess it up—usually because folks just don’t know what’s important and why.

That’s where we come in! We can help your puppy get started on the right paw, and we can help you learn what’s important, why it’s important, how to make the most of the puppy months and how to shape your puppy’s behavior as they grow older.

We offer three programs to help train your puppy (click on the images to learn more):

14-day Puppy Program

The 14-day puppy program is designed to set a solid foundation for good behavior and give both dog and owner tools and skills to build on as your puppy grows up. It is appropriate for puppies ages 12-18 weeks.

Your puppy will come to live with my family for 14 days. During this time, your puppy will get plenty of love, playtime and training from both me, my family, and other age-appropriate (and size-appropriate) dogs. We’ll teach basic commands, manners, and age-appropriate exposure to things like different surfaces, sounds, grooming tools, etc. This is a fantastic “head start” for any puppy.

We welcome puppies of all breeds and sizes and puppies who are already displaying concerning behaviors. Every puppy can benefit from this program!

10-DAY PUPPY PROGRAM details

This foundational training program teaches:

• crate training

• housebreaking

• leash manners

• introduction to obedience commands (on leash)

• addresses common problem behaviors such as nipping and jumping

• the foundation of the human-dog relationship

ELIGIBILITY

• Open to puppies of all breeds and sizes

• Limited to ages 12-weeks through 18-weeks

• Puppies must have Rabies and Bordetella vaccines, as well as a negative fecal exam

the 14-day puppy program PACKAGE INCLUDEs:

• 14-day board & train program at my house in Virginia, so that your puppy can receive the structure they need to learn a healthy, balanced way of life.

• (1) 90-minute "Go-Home" Coaching Session with you, so that you know exactly how to continue their training once you bring them home.

• The age-appropriate training tools necessary to effectively communicate with your puppy, including the prong collar, long line and place cot.

• Guidance for the human end of the leash, including a copy of Sean O'Shea's book Love Them By Leading Them.

• All graduates of the 14-day program receive a $350 discount on our 4-week e-collar training program.

Young Puppy Lessons Package

The Young Puppy Lessons Package is a 3-lesson package designed to address common puppy problems right there in your home, such as housebreaking, puppy nipping, jumping, crate training and leash manners (depending on your puppy’s age). It is appropriate for puppies ages 8-16 weeks.

During each private lesson, you will learn how to become your puppy’s primary trainer! We’ll work with your puppy at the beginning of each lesson, then we’ll teach you and your household how to continue working with your puppy between lessons and beyond. All of these lessons are completed in your home.

You will learn how to communicate with your puppy using age-appropriate training tools. We’ll also talk about lifestyle factors that impact a puppy’s behavior—what they are, how to optimize them, how to troubleshoot, etc.

This 3-lesson package can help with:

• walking on a leash

• introduction to obedience commands (on leash)

• common puppy problems such as jumping and nipping (on leash)

This is a foundational training program designed to guide & support you through the earliest phases of puppyhood.

ELIGIBILITY

• Open to puppies of all breeds and sizes

• Limited to ages 8-weeks through 16-weeks

• You must live within a 1-hour drive of Nellysford, Virginia.

package INCLUDES:

• (3) 45-minute lessons in your home. We'll drive to you and we'll help you learn how to address your puppy's behavior in the context where it matters most.

• The age-appropriate training tools necessary to effectively communicate with your puppy and address your concerns. This may include the prong collar, slip lead, puppy treat pouch, long line, and/or place cot.

• Guidance for the human end of the leash, including a copy of Sean O'Shea's book Love Them By Leading Them.

• All graduates of our puppy lesson programs are eligible for a $100 discount on the adult 4-week e-collar training program.

Older Puppy Lessons Package

The Older Puppy Lessons Package is a 4-lesson package focused on teaching obedience commands and leash skills. Your puppy will learn on-leash obedience, including sit, down, place, on-leash recall, and how to walk politely (heel). It is appropriate for puppies who are between 4 and 6 months old.

During private lesson, you will become your puppy’s primary trainer. We’ll work with your puppy at the beginning of each lesson, then we’ll teach you how to continue working with your puppy between lessons and beyond. The work between each lesson is where the real learning happens, so before enrolling in this program, please be sure you have time every day to dedicate to your dog’s learning!

You will learn how to communicate with your puppy using the prong collar and leash. We’ll also talk about lifestyle factors that impact a puppy’s behavior—what they are, how to optimize them, how to troubleshoot, etc. We can talk through some minor behavioral issues, but the goal of this program is not to resolve behavior issues.

Older puppy LESSONs: package DETAILS

This 4-lesson package can help with:

• walking politely on a leash

• learning the commands sit, down, place, come and heel (all on leash)

This is an on-leash training program that uses a prong collar and leash to communicate with your puppy.

ELIGIBILITY

• Open to puppies of all breeds and sizes.

• Limited to ages 4-months to 6-months.

• You must be able to drive to our location in Nellysford, VA.

package INCLUDES:

• (4) 60-minute lessons at Sadie’s Rules. We’ll spend the first part of the lesson working one-on-one with your puppy, then we’ll add you in for the second part of each lesson.

• The age-appropriate training tools necessary to effectively communicate with your puppy, including the prong collar, long line and place cot.

• Guidance for the human end of the leash, including a copy of Sean O'Shea's book Love Them By Leading Them and in-person, one-on-one coaching at each lesson.

• All graduates of our puppy lesson programs are eligible for a $100 discount on the adult 4-week e-collar training program.
